Surya in Aids awareness film

There are only some actors who do not think of only themselves when it comes to social issues. One such is Surya. He has acted in a few awareness films and he's now to act in an Aids awareness film.

If the mother has Aids, it will affect the baby in the womb. Now with modern medicine, it is possible to treat the mother so the disease will not affect the unborn child. Surya is acting in a film that conveys this message. Produced by the Tamilnadu Aids Control Dept, this film will be screened before the main film in theatres.

Unfortunately, this can be seen only in Chennai. Only those theatres that have digital facility can project this film. Aids has affected people in towns and villages near Salem and Namakkal.

Surya impressed by locals

Currently Surya is busy with Vel with director Hari at Alangulam in Tirunelveli district. While discussing about his film, Hari states, “Vel is a beautiful story that will highlight the value of joint family system which is almost receded in today’s society.

We have completed 24 days of shooting in Alangulam and the locals are very cooperative despite the fact that a film shooting is being conducted in their area for the first time.

Of course there is always a crowd even during nights but they are very supportive and do not create any problem for us”.

While comparing an outdoor shoot with that within a set, Hari prefers the former as it gives him an opportunity to interact with people and understand them better. Forty more days of shooting would see the completion of Vel which will be a Diwali release. After completing this venture, Hari will be directing his next project with Bharath as hero. Meanwhile hero Surya has plans to take a few days off to be with his wife Jyothika during her delivery.

Hari – Suirya team has a star addition!

We all remember the priest from Saamy; he should have been the most progressive priest that Tamil Nadu has ever seen, mouthing philosophies against superstitions in what was perhaps the most socially relevant comedy tracks of its time.

Well, it was Vivek who did the role in his inimitable style. After Saamy however, the combination of Vivek and director Hari never got together again. Vadivelu was seen in all of the director’s movies like Arul, Kovil, Aaru, Vel and Seval.

This combination too rocked on the big screen. But now, Hari has decided that it is time to try Vivek’s brand of humor once again.

Vivek and Hari will get together again in the director’s upcoming Suriya project Singam. Anushka will be Suriya’s heroine for the first time in this movie. Singam is expected to begin after Suirya is done with all his present commitments.

Suriya turns cop again

After his blockbusters Suriya s/o Krishnan and Veedokkade (dubbed versions of Tamil films Vaaranam Aayiram and Ayan respctively), popular Telugu-Tamil actor Suriya is now getting ready to don a police officer's role in his forthcoming Singam to be directed by Hari, who earlier directed Suriya's Aaru (2005) and Vel (2007), and wielded the megaphone for Vikram's cop film Saamy (2003). Notably, Suriya earlier played a police officer in Goutham Menon's Kakka Kakka, which turned out to be an all-time mega hit in Suriya's career. Singam will have Tollywood hottie Anushka Shetty in the female lead. Devi Sri Prasad will score the music and Priyan cranks the camera. The film is being produced by Gnanavelraja under the banner of Studio Green and BIG Pictures. Meanwhile, according to latest trade reports, Suriya's Veeduokkade, directed by cinematographer turned director K.V. Anand, is turning to be a great success in Telugu as well. The action flick has already emerged as the top grosser in Tamil Nadu by collecting more than Rs. 50 crores. AVM, which sold the overseas rights to London-based Ayngaran International, had retained the Telugu dubbing rights of the film.

Anushka opposite Suriya in Singam

Tollywood's latest sensation Anushka will be the heroine in Suriya's next Tamil cop movie Singam to be directed by cinematographer-turned-director Hari, who earlier directed Suriya in Aaru (2005) and Vel (2007). Notably, Singam is Suriya's 25th film the second time Suriya plays a cop onscreen. (His first role of a police officer was in Goutham Menon's Kakka Kakka.) Touted to be an action-packed entertainer mixed with sentiment and comedy, Singam will start rolling at Tirunelveli, Ambasamudram, Kutralam, Karaikudi, Tuticurin, Chennai, Hyderabad and Vizag once Suriya completes his ongoing Aadhavan, directed by K.S. Ravikumar. V.T. Vijayan is the editor. Priyan is the cinematographer. Devi Sri Prasad will score music for the film, which will feature Prakashraj and Vivek in key roles. The film is produced by K.E. Gnanavel (maker of Sillunnu Oru Kaadhal and Paruthiveeran) under the banner of Studio Green. Meanwhile, some unconfirmed reports say that Anushka, the heroine of Tollywood blockbuster Arundhathi, is likely to reprise the same role in its Hindi remake, to be produced by M. Shyam Prasad Reddy.

Chennai yields 7 crore to Ayan

Ayan released on April 3rd and today it completes a highly successful 50 days in theaters. In the process it has done extremely well for its producers AVM, collecting an overwhelming 7 crores in Chennai alone. It has to be said that the Ayan team got its spot on screen. Director K.V. Anandh came up with a thoroughly enjoyable entertainer and the lead cast of Suriya and Tamanna put in great performances. The support cast too were wonderful with Prabhu receiving a lot of appreciation. The producers AVM must also be lauded for their release strategy which made full use of the 2 month long summer vacations, when many other movies preferred to stay in the cans due to the IPL scare. But, Ayan outlived all such fears and has made handsome bucks for all involved. SUN Pictures which bought the movie from AVM prior to release must also be appreciated for some hectic marketing which meant that the movie was on the minds of people even during the exciting matches of the IPL. The best part of the news is that Ayan does not seem to have run out of fuel. At the end of its 50 days, the movie is still doing very well in many centers of the city including Sathyam, Inox, Mayajaal, Abirami and other prominent theaters. Let’s wait and watch how much further Ayan goes.

Surya to debut in Bollywood

Surya, riding high on the back-to-back success of 'Varanam Aayiram' and the latest 'Ayan' is all set to step in to Bollywood. The reigning star of Kollywood will make his Bollywood debut with Ram Gopal Varma's new flick titled ' Raktha Sarithra'. The film will have Vivek Oberoi as Surya's co-star.

known for his underworld thrillers and gangster stories, Varma has taken up the life stories of two andra big-wigs Paritala Ravi and Maddhelacheruvu Suri

Sources say, the coming together of the two, Varma and Surya was in the making for a long time and got delayed due to various assignments. Surya, who is busy shooting for K S Ravikumar's 'Adhavan', will start working for 'Raktha Sarithra' after the Tamil project.

“Reel” pair could become a “Real”! Jyothika wants Surya to avoid Asin!

Many producers have requested their directors to book Asin as the heroine and Surya as a hero since the stupendous success of the film Gajini.

The producers of Vel and Varanam Ayiram wanted Asin to play the lead lady in their films. However, a strict order from wife Jyothika to avoid Asin in any of his forthcoming films has forced Surya to avoid the actress. Is Jyothika afraid that the ‘reel’ pair could become a ‘real’ one at some stage…?



A source from within the close circle of Surya says, ‘there might be some truth in this gossip. When Gajini became a huge hit, Jyothika became uncomfortable as the media raved about the onscreen chemistry between the two.”

Jyothika was of the impression that she and Surya made a perfect match on the celluloid. However, Asin’s entry ransacked her imagination. Some might be aware of a film named Chennayil Oru Mazhaikaalam that was dropped after the completion of a brief schedule at AVM. Though Asin was supposed to play the female lead role, Surya inisted that Jyothika be cast opposite him. However, the director refused to change his heroine, and finally the project was shelved


After a year, when the shooting for Gajini began, director Murugadoss was keen on retaining Asin in the lead role. As Surya was badly in need of a hit after the debacle of Perazhgan, he did not make any fuss and kept quiet on his choice of heroine. Since the astounding stupendous success of Gajini, Surya now himself opts for Asin for his new films. When Gowtham informed him about his decision to cast Asin in Varanam Aayiram, Surya happily relented. But this time it was Jyothika who expressed her displeasure over the selection of Asin. Now the crew is on the hunt of an apt face for this film, before taking off for Afghanistan. It is said that director Hari also initially selected Asin as the heroine of Vel with Surya. But now he will reconsider his choice, and search for another girl for the lead role.

Self confidence and mutual trust are the ‘mantra’ for the success of any relationship, and hope Jyothika is aware of that! Anyway, we hope the couple keep loving each as and do not give any room for rumor-mongering.

The happening actors, Surya and Nayan pair up!!

Girls go swooning when they look at the handsome Surya and men go hot over glam doll Nayan, and what will happen when both of them pair up. The movie will turn out explosive. This is exactly what Udayanidhi Stalin and K.S Ravi Kumar are trying to do for their next movie.


The yet to be titled movie is Udayanidhi Stalin’s second venture after Kuruvi. The shoot will start some time in December, after Surya completes Ayan and Nayanthara finishes her current assignments, Aegan and Villu. The fine pair of Surya- Nayan with AR Rahman is likely to provide music under hit maker KS Ravikumar’s direction, which will make this one of the hottest projects in the trade.

Surya and Nayantara were seen together perviously in the movie Ghajini, where Nayantara comes in the second half of the movie and helps Surya fight the villians. Nayan had also signed up Lingusamy’s film where her hero is Surya’s younger brother, Karthi.

Surya teams up with Panchu Arunachalam

Panchu Arunachalam’s P.A. Art Production is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. To make this celebration more meaningful and profitable, actor Surya has agreed to act in the next movie produced by P.A. Art Production.




Surya, whose movie Vel with Asin releases this Diwali is currently working in the movie Vaaranam Ayiram with Divya and Sameera Reddy.

He also is going to act with Trisha in Selvaraghavan’s direction for Kanakaratna movies. After the completion of these projects, Surya will be acting in the movie produced by Panchu Arunachalam of P.A. Arts Production.

It can be recalled that he has already acted in Panchu Arunachalam’s Poovellam Kettupar with his sweet heart Jyothika!

RGV offers Surya’s ticket to B-Town

Looks like B-town flooded with non-stop entry of South Indian Actors. When Actor Vikram has almost completed shooting for Mani Ratnam’s ‘Raavan’, his close pal Suriya isn’t far behind… The most successful actor from Tamil film industry is all set to get-go with Ram Gopal Varma’s forthcoming directorial ‘Ratha Charithra’ based on Naxalite gang war.

The film is based on lives of two eminent bigwigs of Andhra Pradesh; ‘Parithala Ravi’ and ‘Maatal Seruvu Suri’. According to the closer sources, Vivek Oberoi is donning Ravi’s characterization while Suriya on the other role. Ram Gopal Varma had revealed the first look of Vivek before few months.

Suriya was fascinated with Ram Gopal Varma’s one-hour narration of script. Well, much excited Suriya has uttered, ‘The film will be made in Two Parts and I will be introduced precisely during penultimate sequences of first part.”

It’s noteworthy that Surya’s wife Jyothika had made her Bollywood debut with Priyadarshan’s ‘Doli Saja Ke Rakhna’ and later moved towards Tamil film industry….

The D-day has finally arrived and with it comes Vel, one of the much-awaited movies of the festive season. Vel had everyone in the industry as well as the fans wondering whether the successful pair – Surya and Asin – could ignite the silver screen once again after their smash hit Gajini.

The movie has nothing new to offer and has all the aspects that one can expect of director Hari. It has shades of Hari’s earlier ventures all hashed up. Looks like the story has been inspired from good old movies, as its storyline is the stale twins-parted-during-childhood kind and how the family reunites, not to mention the villain somewhere out there wrecking vengeance.

As said earlier, one of the twins, played by Surya, is lost during childhood. A rich man from a village takes him under his care and brings him up, as his own son, naming him Shakthivel a.k.a Vel, who unaware of his true ancestry, grows up a village deary.


Meanwhile, heroine Asin learns about the existence of Vel and informs his twin, Vasu, a detective, who happens to live in the city with his mother. Vasu firmly believes that Vel is his brother and goes to the village to find out the truth. What ensues after this is the usual swapping of roles by the brothers to fight the villains and how the family reunites.


As usual, Surya has given his best. He looks relishing after a year long gap. Asin is her bubbly self as 7up Swathi, enjoying every bit of it. Vadivelu’s comedy is stale barring a few scenes. Music, scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja, is very average and if one expects it to bring in the crowds to the theatres, then they are in for a rude shock. Brindha and Kalyan’s choreography is very mediocre and has nothing worth mentioning. Nothing novel has been attempted by the cinematographer, Priyan, but the special effects are excellent, particularly in scenes where both the Suryas are shown together.


The movie, before the intermission drags on and on but the second half moves at a faster pace, thanks to the screenplay. But Hari could have made it even crispier.

Surya Nayanthara Hot Kodaikannal Trip for Aadhavan?

Suriya’s Aadhavan movie finished their first major part of the movie at a huge bungalow at Chennai and with that the movie is 40percent completed and then the last week unit went to shoot Kodaikanal for few songs and scenes in which the pair dances for the peppy numbers of Music Director Harris Jeyaraj choreographed by Bhaskar. Surya and Nayanthara shoots these scenes at a beautiful mountain 40km away from Kodaikanal. After finishing these scenes at Kodai the second schedule of shooting is over and the Director K.S.Ravikumar plans to move his crew to shoot the next schedule at Kolkatta and planned to shoot two songs abroad as well. Actor Suriya after hat trick hits “Aadhavan” is considered to be the most expected of Diwali release.
