Assistant directors sing Suriya’s praise

Often understated in their importance and unsung heroes, the assistant directors of a film often make it the movie it is. A director’s student, man Friday and the actors’ friends, these directors to be are a formidable lot.

And now, they’re singing the praise of actor Suriya. All direction aspirants who have worked in 'Ayan' are very much excited with the actor’s demeanour.

With the film completing a 100 day run in the box office, Suriya had recently invited all assistants and threw them a party, apart from gifting them Rs 20,000 each. But what moved them most was the actor’s modesty in calling them as one of the most important reasons for the film’s success. Way to go, Suriya!

Suriya’s fans celebrate despite his absence

Although Suriya is not in town and is shooting for his next flick Aadhavan in South Africa, his fans all over Tamil Nadu left no stones unturned to celebrate the occasion by indulging in numerous activities proclaiming their love to the star. More than 100 fans donated blood today at the Government Hospital, a part of the birthday celebrations.

The event was presided over by MLA S.Ve. Shekar. Suriya Fan Association officials including Honorary President, K.Gnanavel, S.R. Prakash Babu, President Parameshvaran and Vice Secratary Veeramani took part in the blood donation camp.

He is one of the hottest hero of Tamil Cinema and is ready to experiment with all his roles to give his audience and fans some quality cinema. Saravanan Sivakumar, popularly known as Suriya in kollywood has come a long way from Nerrukku Ner to his latest released Ayan.


Surya is currently busy shooting for Aadhavan with Tammannah directed by K. S. Ravikumar, followed by Singam directed by Hari. Surya will also make his entry into Hindi movie with Rakta Charitthra, which is to be directed by Ram Gopal Varma. On the personal front he is married to actress Jyothika and has a daughter Diya.

Suriya is celebrating his Birthday today (July 23rd). Surya fans wishes Suriya a year of sucess and recognitions.

News about Hari - Suriya’s cop flick Singam seems to be attracting the focus of media every now and then. Now that it’s established that Suriya will be playing a police officer, latest in the series is that Suriya’s role will have both urban and rural shades in it. Besides, we hear wind of the fact that Suriya is asked to put on some weight by the director to suit the character.

However, with his six-pack tag weighed down heavily on him, Suriya doesn’t seem to have lost interest in the phenomenon altogether. Last heard, he will gain some weight but not at the cost of his toned abs.

Suriya teams up with Murugadoss for a trilingual

It doesn’t get bigger than this! Suriya, who is already committed to do a film in Bollywood with RGV, will now take on a trilingual, to be made in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. And the flick will be directed by none other than our ‘Ghajini’ Murugadoss and be produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin.

“It is true that we are doing the film, the shoot for which will begin in February next year. Suriya will play the lead in all the versions,” he said, adding that the rest of the cast for the flick is still being finalized.

Suriya will begin work on this film after his current flick ‘Aadhavan’, and his 25th film ‘Singam’. Harris Jayaraj, who has come up with chartbuster tunes for Suirya, from ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ to ‘Varanam Aayiram’ and ‘Ayan’, will be the music composer.

“It is a complete action flick but we are still in the process of finalizing the script,” revealed Murugadoss.

It’s time to celebrate for Suriya! Ayan has just successfully completed 100 days! The film is being screened in four theatre complexes in the city - Sathyam, Albert, Mayajaal and Abirami – where it has completed the century. This Suriya starrer is the hit of the year with the film grossing around Rs. 50 crores. With Ayan, Suriya’s star power has moved up several notches high. As far as Chennai is concerned, Ayan is said to have earned over Rs. 7 crores. Ayan is directed by KV Anand. Sharing the screen space with Suriya is Tamanna.

Suriya and Jyothika

Suriya being most popular hero who is known to the audience and fans by his performance and blockbuster hits was sharing his thoughts about his latest flick ‘Aadhavan’. He was in Hyderabad while he was in shooting for ‘Aadhavan’ and told that it is a great entertaining movie for the audience.

Suriya is joins with beautiful Nayantara in this movie as we all know. Apart from the flick, he made it a point to express that he loves Hyderabad and its popular dish Biriyani. He also added that it was really overwhelming to see the kind of response he get whenever he comes to Hyderabad and that’s what makes this place even more special for him.

Recently, during a small talk with Suriya he shared some interesting facts about their married life. It seems that Jyothika has put a home rule that they would never talk about their profession at home. Suriya said this when a question has come about Jyothika’s interest to return to the silver screen. Suriya kept the options open to Jyothika saying that she may come back if she gets a right opportunity and interest.

For now, it is being said that both Suriya and Jyothika will pair up for an ad that talks about awareness on cancer.

Surya and Shriya for Joy of Giving Week

‘The Joy of Giving Week’ (TJGW) to be celebrated all over India from September 27 to October 3, 2009, was announced today. Conceptualised by Give India, this unique and ambitious initiative aims to get people from all walks of life together to engage in acts of giving money, time, skills or simple acts of kindness. The Week aims to create an unprecedented togetherness in celebrating the best within each of us as human beings. TJGW will be held annually in the week of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary every year. Actors Suriya and Shriya Saran were present at the occasion to pledge their support to TJGW.

Give India is India’s largest philanthropy exchange that connects individual donors to over 200 NGOs that have undergone rigorous due diligence. It currently channels Rs. 27 crores p.a. from over 150,000 individual donors to these 200+ NGOs. Give India introduced online donations to India, runs the largest Payroll Giving Programme that spans 30,000 employees in over 40 companies, and conceptualised Marathon based fundraising in India as the founding charity partner of the Mumbai and Delhi marathons.

Suriya offers 10% of pay, Shriya appeals for support

Celebrities from all verticals gathered at The Park, Chennai this evening to announce the Joy of Giving Week, planned to be held from September 27 - October 3, 2009, organized by GiveIndia, India’s largest philanthropic platform. The Joy of Giving Week is devised as an ambitious social movement that aims to engage two crore Indians spanning companies, schools, colleges, celebrities and the general public.

Speaking at the event, Suriya announced that he would allocate 10% of his salary for such philanthropic activities. He also revealed that he is being chided by Gnanavel, who heads the Agaram Foundation run by his family, for not visiting the foundation to oversee its activities. “I promise that I will spend at least a day every month from now on with the Foundation,” Suriya asserted. Shriya, who also addressed the gathering, wished that such efforts are supported by public in a large scale.

The event also saw participation from N Vaghul, former Chairman ICICI Bank, Dr Prathap Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals and M Mahadevan, Chairman and MD, Oriental Cuisines.
